MASVINGO–High Court judge, Justice Garainesu Mawadze, has granted ZWL$10 000 bail to a Gutu man who is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl.

Jealousmore Kuvengawafa (46) of Mafukidze Village under Chief Gutu was granted bail this morning.

The State did not oppose the granting of bail.

Kuvengawafa will deposit ZWL$10 000 bail and report at Chikato Police Station every Friday. His case is being tried at Masvingo Magistrates Court.

The alleged rape happened on December 14, 2022 and the minor is Kuvengawafa’s neighbour.

Prosecutor Mukai Mutumhe told the court that on the said date at around 1 pm Kuvengawafa passed through his neighbour’s homestead and found the minor in a kitchen hut alone.

He allegedly closed the door, lifted her up and laid her on a bench, removed her panties, kissed her and raped her once.

After the rape, Kuvengawafa left the homestead and the minor went to a garden where she met grandmother and narrated the ordeal. The grandmother went with her to the Police where a rape case was filed. 

Justice Mawadze said he did not oppose bail because the State had consented.
