GUTU- Tapiwa Chineka (24) from Gutu who scooped two medals at the just ended All Comers Meet competitions in Zambia is appealing for US$ 350 to attend the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) in South Africa next week.
Chineka told The Mirror that he is appealing for US$350 for transport, accommodation, food, Covid19 testing and subsistence for his race on June 19.
The lad has already missed his first qualifying race which was set for June 12 owing to financial difficulties with his last hope of qualifying for the All-Africa Games (AAG) being a race on June 19, 2021 at BestMed Tuks.
He failed to automatically qualify for the AAG competition after he missed the 800m qualifying time of 1:48:00 by a second having finished in 1:49:50 and the AGN is his last hope making it to the AAG.
“I am appealing for US$350 to enable me to participate at the AGN games which if I excel will stand a chance of competing at the All-Africa Games (AAG) where winter Olympics competitors are chosen.
“I was due to travel to SA tomorrow but I am having financial difficulties. My family sponsored my trip to Zambia where I scooped a gold medal in the 800m race and silver in the 4x 400m relay,” said Chineka.
