Gutu gets twins as province records 24 new year babies

MASVINGO – Twenty-four babies were born around Masvingo Province’s major hospitals on January 1, 2023, according to a survey carried out by The Mirror.
Among the new year babies is a wonderful set of twins delivered at Gutu Mission Hospital on the first day of the year. The two girls weighed 1,45kg and 1,2kg are premature but in good health and they were born to Ropafadzo Zigomo and Tanaka Chigame both from Chivhu.
The Mirror in the survey covered Gutu Mission Hospital, Makurira Memorial Clinic, Masvingo Provincial Hospital and Chiredzi District hospital.
Gutu Mission is the only health centre that got a set of twins among its eight babies. Girls were more than boys at 15 and 9.
Masvingo Provincial Hospital recorded 7 births and three of them were girls. Masvingo Provincial Hospital Public Relations Officer, Sister Chioniso Gono confirmed the births to The Mirror. There were no complications.
Makurira Memorial Clinic recorded two births, a boy and a girl. Doctor Dr Phineas Makurira confirmed the births.
Chiredzi District Hospital had six babies, three boys and three girls. Chiredzi Medical Superintendent Dr David Munyaradzi Tarumbwa said there were no incidents.
The Mirror could not establish the time that the first new year baby was born or the weight of the different babies.
Royal Womens Clinic did not record any births on New Year’s Day and Mazorodze Clinic could not provide the information.
