GUTU- 24-year- old Tapiwa Chinheka from Rafamoyo in Gutu scooped two medals following a sterling performance in the All Comes Meet Competition which was held in Zambia last week.
Chinheka won two gold in the 800m race and a silver medal in the 4 by 4 400m relay.
Speaking to The Mirror, Chinheka said the competition was tough but the support from his fellow countrymen kept him going.
“The competition was tough but I managed to come back home with a gold and size medal in the 800m and 4x400m relay respectively,” he said.
Chinheka was selected for the national team in 2011 after being nurtured and identified by his high school coach, Phainos Mugura.
Chineka has several accolades under his name.
In 2014, he won a gold medal in the 800m race in COSSA games held in Botswana.
He bagged a silver medal for 1500m race the same year in South Africa and another silver medal in 2017 for 800m race in Angola.
Chinheka laments lack of suppport as a hinderance to achieving his goals as an athlete and he is appealing for support from various stakeholders in upcoming events.
