Gtel workers caught stealing US$3 377 on camera
Masvingo – Two female Gtel workers are in court facing theft charges after they were allegedly caught on camera stealing US$3 377 from another employee.
Asha Tafadzawa Masiyiwa (28) and Selina Chingorimbo (25) of Rujeko C, Masvingo appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Grace Tupiri and the matter was postponed to a later date because one of the witnesses failed to turn up.
It is the State case that Masiyiwa and Chingorimbo received 189 Infinity 9 cellphones for sale in the month of September 2021. After selling these cellphones, the accused generated their weekly reconciliation forms which showed total receipts of US$6 587.
The matter come to light on September 28, 2021 when the accused persons sent the money to G-Telecoms Headquarters. A variance of US$3 377 was noticed and CCTV footage showed the two taking away the money from the company coffers and sharing it.
Masiyiwa works as a sales team leader in Masvingo and is responsible for receipting and forwarding cash sales with weekly reconciliation forms to Gtel headquarters. The second accused works as the assistant to the team leader and her duties are selling Gtel products.
