Great Dyke FC wins lnvitational tournament

MBERENGWA- Mberengwa-based side, Great Dyke Football Club, clinched its first trophy of the year after winning the Great Dyke lnvitational tournament. The tournament which featured Great Dyke FC, Kent Mine FC from Filabusi and TMZ FC from Neta was played at Education stadium in Mberengwa.

The tourney was organized by, Ashel Gutu, as pre-season preparation for Great Dyke and Kent mine who are set to play Division 2 football this year.

TMZ and Great Dyke played the first match with the host winning 2-1 courtesy  of goals from Beckham Shirichena and Blessed Chibi while TMZ scored through Webster Shumba.

Kent mine and TMZ played to a two all draw, Kent went on to pull another draw against Great Dyke who eventually became the winner with 4 points while Kent finished second with two points.

The winner walked away with a trophy and US$30. Allan Masevhe was named player of the tournament.

Speaking to The Mirror Sport Great Dyke football club Director Samuel Sinarawo said the games were not about getting the trophy but an assessment before the new season.

“This will be our first year in Division 2 football. These games are part of our preparation because we have a vision to be in the Premier League by 2025. The boys did play well especially the goalkeeper who made crucial saves. We have seen our mistakes and we will work towards that so that we keep our vision intact”, he said.
