GUTU – Seventy-year-old Elizabeth Mugadza of Serima Village under Chief Serima has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and killing her niece for sleeping out.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the case to The Mirror.
According to a Police report, Monalisa Mutuka (19) did not sleep home on the night of July, 3, 2021. She only returned the following morning at 6am.
“Investigations are still underway and the accused will appear in court,” said Inspector Dhewa.
The report says that Mugadza asked her niece as to where she slept but she did not get a response. Rather the girl walked out on her and went to her bedroom.
Mugadza followed Mutuka to her bedroom where she allegedly beat her all over with a switch.
Mutuka fell between two metal base beds and hit the floor with her head and she passed out.
Mugadza alerted her brother, Michael Mugadza (79) of the same village who found Mutuka already dead.
A Police report was made at Chatsworth Police and accused was arrested.
Deceased sustained swollen left leg, bruises as well as deep cut on the right and back of her head.
