GoodHope student shines at international Taekwondo tourney
CHIKOMBA-A Good Hope Junior School student, Jamiel Tigere (11) won a silver medal in the Under 38 kilograms category at the just-ended international taekwondo tournament held at Bosco Youth Center in Manzini, Eswatini.
The tournament had 525 competitors drawn from 13 countries, Angola, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, and Uganda.
School Taekwondo club trainer and MuvSports club founder Givemore Muvuti (43) confirmed the medal to The Mirror.
He said he was excited by the performance of the students at the tournament and applauded the school authorities for supporting its Taekwondo club.
“I am happy with the performance of my team. Getting a silver medal at this level of the game was not easy. We learned a lot from this tournament. We hope to find assistance with Generation 2 equipment which is being used at international games,” said Muvuti.
Three Good Hope students, Jamiel, Amanda Nyathi and Constance Nhlizio took part in the competitions. MuvSports Club had one participant Tarirai Normally Masunganye.
School head Kudakwashe Nyani congratulated his three pupils students who represented the school.
“I would like to congratulate all Good Hope Junior Taekwondo students who participated in Eswatini. They did the school district, province and country proud.
“I am also happy that one of our students Jamiel won a silver medal which has become a motivation to the generality of our learners. Thumbs-up to him. The school will forever continue to support the team,” said Nyani.
