CHIWUNDURA – Midlands Minister of State, Owen Ncube has handed over Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to Gomo Primary School in Chiwundura.
He handed over the equipment that includes 20 laptops, a printer, a projector and a whiteboard last week.
The donation was received by school head Thomas Mafa.
The equipment was donated to rural schools by President Mnangagwa through the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology Postal and Courier Services (ICT) on March 7, this year when he launched the National ICT Policy, Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master plan, National Broadband plan, The Optic Fibre Network Backbone, Schools ICT labs and clinic connectivity.
Ncube said the equipment is in line with Government’s Education 5.0 initiative which seeks to strengthen E-learning and strengthen universal access to education.
“These laptops are part of the broader strategy by Government to modernize rural schools across the province from Mberengwa to Gokwe North. This development comes with the vast changing technology and will transform the education sector.
“I urge learners to fully utilise these laptops and take their studies seriously. I want to applaud Government for approving the license of the world renowned satellite based Internet provider, Starlink which will ensure fast, reliable and affordable connectivity,” he said.
Mafa applauded Government for the initiative. He said this will improve education standards at the school.
“I would like to thank Government for this donation. It will go a long way in transforming rural education. I appeal to teachers and students to put the equipment to good use,” he said.
Some schools that have benefitted from the program are Riverside Primary and Nashville High School in Gweru and Chiedza Primary School in Kwekwe.
