GOKWE – Gokwe Town Council is going to set up an animal pound where animals that stray into the urban settlement are kept, Acting Town Secretary, Engineer Melsen Masukume has said.
Those villagers whose animals are impounded will pay a fine to get them released. Engineer Masukume said the problem of stray animals is getting out of hand at Gokwe Center.
These include goats, donkeys and cattle which are also obstructing traffic movement in the CBD area.
In the meantime, the council will engage the Rural District Council to keep the animals in their pound while they work on having their own pound.
Masukume said council will also engage traditional leaders and villagers to raise awareness and educate them about keeping their animals within the specified bounds.
