GOKWE – Gokwe South Council now has material for fixing public toilets that are out of order and the work will start immediately, the local authority engineer, Melsen Masukume has said.
Masukume said this during the presentation of findings of the research into the district’s Masterplan at Gokwe community Hall on Thursday.
The move follows a public outcry over lack of public toilets.
The task of solving the problem of malfunctioning public toilets where vendors are forced to use the bush will take place in phases with Craft Center being the area of priority.
“Gokwe is a developing town so there are several issues we are working on. We are working on the public toilets starting with Craft Center.
“We have the materials and from tomorrow we will start to fix the toilets at Craft Center. We are addressing the public toilets challenge in phases. The process may be slow due to financial constraints but we assure you that everything will be fixed.
“After Craft Center we will go to Chimusoro public toilets, the bus rank and other areas,” said engineer Masukume.
He also said that the place around Craft Center will be tarred.
“We will also tar the Craft Center and make the place more friendly for business. We however, urge vendors to pay their rates in time so that service delivery improves,” said Masukume.
