Gokwe completes 1,1km road with ERRP Funds

GOKWE -Gokwe Town Council has completed a 1,1km stretch of a road in the CBD using ZWL$560 607, 78 of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme funds.

This was confirmed to The Mirror by Gokwe Acting Town Secretary Alexander Nyandoro. He said that the road will ease traffic movement in the Midlands town.
“We have successfully completed the rehabilitation of a 1.1 kilometer stretch in the CBD so far and the stretch is now open to motorists.

“The stretch is one of the road project being implemented under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) and ZWL$560 607,78 was used,” he said.
He urged Government to continue supporting councils through the ERRP to sustain the roads for long periods.
“We want to thank the Government for introducing ERRP which is a game changer in most of our roads,” he said.
Motorists who spoke to The Mirror expressed satisfaction at the work and hailed ZINARA and the local authority for implementing the road maintenance programme.

” We thank the Gokwe Town Council for implementing this road project. The 1.1 km stretch was no longer safe because of potholes but now it’s a ‘carpet’.
“We also thank Government for disbursing funds towards road rehabilitation because most of our roads were in very bad shape,” said Michael Mashawi.
Meanwhile, most of the major road projects under the ERRP in Gokwe North are complete with the few remaining ones set to be finished by the District Development Fund (DDF) by the end of July.

Gokwe North is one of most remote districts in the Midlands and has invested in road, health and educational infrastructure in the district to catch up with other districts in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
During the rainy season, the two Gokwe districts are usually cut from each other forcing motorists to use the longer Kadoma route to access the other district.https://masvingomirror.com
