Gokwe businessman loses US$10k to armed robbers

GOKWE – Gokwe businessman, Leonard Chari (45) lost US$9 900, ZAR 3 000 and a pistol to four armed robbers who broke into his shop at Masakadza Business Centre, Gokwe South last Saturday.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Mirror that the robbery occurred around 1 am. He said the unidentified robbers where armed with axes and logs. Chari, his family and workers were assaulted.
Circumstances are that the thieves broke into the house behind the shop around 1 am. They were armed with axes and logs and demanded cash from Chari and his employee.
The four robbers assaulted him, his wife, children and the shop attendant and proceeded to steal US$9 900, ZAR3 000, a Taurus revolver loaded with 28 rounds and 5 mobile phones and went away.
Chari filed a Police report. The revolver was found in his yard in the morning. Mahoko urged the public to desist from keeping huge sums of money at their place of residence. “We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. We further urge members of the public not to keep large sums of money in their premises,” said Inspector Mahoko.
