GOKWE – Gokwe Town Council, acting town secretary Joconia Nyoni has stepped down from the post and he reverts to his position as the local authority’s finance director.
Nyoni confirmed the development to The Mirror and the changes are with effect from Monday.
“Yes it’s true that I have stepped down and this is with effect from yesterday.
“My decision is personal. I have resumed duties as director of finance,” he said.
Nyoni breathed fire recently after Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, Owen Ncube blasted the local authority for failing to provide service delivery.
Ncube ordered the local authority to put its house in order and stick to its service delivery mandate rather than fighting.
Nyoni ‘s resignation from the post comes at a time when Government rejected Gokwe Town Council’s 2024 budget.
The local authority was given up to 30 April, 2024 to submit a revised budget proposal supported by documents and road maps to address the issues raised by the Minister.
In November last year, former Acting Town Secretary Alexander Nyandoro was sent on forced leave before he was suspended.
Nyandoro held the position on an acting capacity since 2020 following the sacking of former Town Secretary Melania Mandeya.
Mandeya was suspended over criminal abuse of office charges.
