Gnashing of teeth in Nyatsime as mysterious deaths hit Zanu PF

Mirror Reporter

Harare – There is gnashing of teeth in Zanu PF in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza following mysterious deaths of two active party members in the last four days, according to a report in today’s Herald.

The Herald confirmed the death of Zanu PF chairman for Nyatsime, George Murambatsvina on Saturday followed soon after by former Manyame Zanu PF district chairman Tina Gweshe on Sunday whose death the paper attributed to stress and food poisoning respectively.

The two died barely two weeks after Moreblessing Ali a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was found murdered allegedly by Zanu PF known activist Pius Jamba (31). After Ali’s death the two were vocal in either dismissing the death as non-political. They also banned funeral gatherings at Ali’s place.

The Herald said Murambatsvina suffered stress and fell ill soon after he ordered a ban on gatherings at Ali’s funeral and CCC members allegedly responded by setting his yet to be completed two roomed house on fire. He collapsed and died before reaching hospital.

The Herald said Gweshe was poisoned at a party. Zanu PF supporters staged a peaceful demonstration yesterday to mourn their two leaders, said The Herald.

The paper described the death of the two as a dark cloud engulfing Nyatsime.

CCC national vice chairman, Job Sikhala who is the family lawyer in Ali’s case gave a stern warning that those involved in the murder were going to be wiped out by an avenging spirit unless they immediately apologized.

Sikhala has since been arrested for inciting violence and has been refused bail by the courts.

Sikhala who is the Zengeza West Constituency legislator, and his Chitungwiza North Constituency counterpart Godfrey Sithole, have since been arrested on charges of incitement to commit violence.

Ali, who the CCC claimed was its member, was abducted outside a nightclub in Nyatsime on May 24, 2022 and her dismembered remains were discovered in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice, about 10km away from where she was taken.

Zanu PF supporters held placards during demonstrations reading, “CCC is responsible for the death of our chairman Murambatsvina”, “Job Sikhala uri mhondi kupisa dzimba dzedu,” and “Mhondi ngadzisungwe”.

Zanu PF Councillor for Ward 9 in Seke Constituency, Masimbi Masimbi, confirmed that Murambatsvina had been suffering from stress after he clashed with CCC.

“After his house was burnt down by CCC hooligans, he was affected by stress and that is when he collapsed last night before we ferried him to hospital where he later passed on.

“It is however, disheartening to note that this violent incident, which is against the wishes of our leader President Mnangagwa who has always been preaching the need for peace, has affected Murambatsvina,” he said.

Kudzanai Kavhukatema, the youth chairperson for Manyame district, said they were still shocked by the death of Murambatsvina.
