MASVINGO – A then 17-year-old girl who allegedly got into a relationship with disqualified Zanu PF Chipinge South candidate in the last Parliamentary elections, Robert Nyemudzo is stuck with his baby after the latter allegedly chased her from his homestead and is not taking care of the child.
The boy is now four and the mother cannot get him a birth certificate. Nyemudzo is refuting paternity and the mother pleads for help to go for DNA tests so she proves her case.
Monica Hanyani told The Mirror that she had a relationship with Nyemudzo in 2017 when she was in Form 4 at Checheche High. She fell pregnant in 2019 and gave birth in 2000. Nyemudzo allegedly chased the girl and her aunties when they took the baby to him.
Hanyani said Nyemudzo made threats against her, forcing her to relocate to Chibuwe. She alleges that Nyemudzo has never taken care of the son and she is challenging the politician to go for DNA tests.
Hanyani’s aunt Natasha Hwira confirmed to The Mirror that they were chased away when they went to Nyemudzo’s place.
Contacted for comment, Nyemudzo said he didn’t know the issue but said Monica should discuss the matter with him and not The Mirror.
“I know nothing about that and even if she was pregnant with me why would she come to you? If I threatened her why can’t she approach my friends or relatives?
“I can’t discuss this issue with you over the phone. She should come and discuss with me,” he said.
Hanyani said she went to Nyemudzo’s homestead when she was pregnant but she was threatened and chased away.
“Nyemudzo is the only man that I was intimate with and I want to go for DNA tests to prove the child’s paternity. My son has no birth certificate. I appeal to women organisations to help with this issue so that I get my child a birth certificate,” said Hanyani.
She said she faces persistent threats from Nyemudzo and his relatives.
“I started dating Nyemudzo when I was in Form 4 in 2017 and I fell pregnant in 2019. I gave birth in 2020 and he chased me and my aunties from his homestead after denying responsibility. I want to approach courts for maintenance or DNA tests but I have no money for that. I am struggling to feed and dress my son. Nyemudzo is the only man I was intimate with.
“I am struggling to make ends meet. My son should be starting school but he doesn’t have a birth certificate,” she said.
“Monica told us that Nyemudzo is responsible for the pregnancy and when he took her to his homestead, he drove us away,” she said.
Nyemudzo was disqualified by the Zanu PF politburo after winning primary elections against Enock Porusingazi.
He was disqualified after being arrested by Police for contravening the Harmful Liquids Act (Chapter 9:10). Police detectives found 15 people mixing and diluting ethanol blend with water and packaging it into 200ml plastic bottle containers. Some 20 860 by 100ml plastic bottles for illicit beer were recovered by Police.
Nyemudzo was acquitted of the charge by the High Court in Mutare.
