Girl (12) with swollen stomach in need of US$2k for surgery

MASVINGO-Laura Kayla Adams (12), a Grade 7 pupil at Victoria Government Primary School in Masvingo is in need of US$2 087 to undergo a corrective surgery for her swollen stomach.
Her mother Chantelle Ebrahim told The Mirror that the surgery is to remove affected colon and she will undergo a biopsy.
“The doctors have concluded that Laura needs a bowel management and a biopsy to be done and sent for testing to confirm a diagnosis of Hirsch sprung disease. One this has been confirmed Laura will need to have an operation for the affected part of her colon to be removed and rejoined,” she said.
Ebrahim also said that Laura is constantly under excruciating pain and the swollen stomach has kept her away from school.
The costs are US$600 for the Bowel Management Procedure, US$650 for Rectal Biopsy Procedure, US$817 to cover hospital admission fees and US$20 for the biopsy.
“I am appealing for financial assistance for my daughter to undergo surgery. She has struggled over the past three years and her situation is worsening. She has missed school and spent most of her time in hospitals,” she said.
