Garbage becomes an eyesore in Chipinge

Chipinge – Uncollected garbage has become a serious health hazard and an eyesore in Chipinge particularly as heavy rains continue to pound the agricultural town.

Residents complained against heaps and heaps of garbage that are found around the town.

The town’s housing director Edson Mujanga blamed the garbage on vendors who are not paying money for refuse charges. He said only 40% of the vendors were paying refuse and hence the piling up of garbage.

“Vendors are paying virtually nothing towards refuse collection. We are taking money from other budgets in order to collect refuse,” said Mujanga.

He said refuse collection fee will be increased with effect from January 21, 2021.
