MASVINGO- A daring Zvimba fraudster has been sentenced to 210 hours of community service after he attempted to defraud a Police officer of US$ 520.

Antony Tererai Manyumbu (34) of 1843 Whitecliff South Zvimba was given the sentence by Masvingo Magistrate Phillip Makondo on Thursday last week. He will do the community service at Kuwadzana Extension Clinic.

Manyumbu attempted to defraud Gift Tsikai of ZRP Zimuto of US$ 520 after he promised him that he could deliver a 3KV solar system. A 3KV solar system costs around US$1 600.

Prosecutor Nixon Chamisa told the court that Manyumbu initially called Tsikai’s daughter, Primrose, and she became suspicious of the call and informed her father.

Tsikai called Manyumbu on Monday last week and asked him if he could deliver a 3KV solar system and the latter said he owns a hardware shop and could deliver the system for US$ 520.

Manyumbu told Tsikai that he was in Harare and the latter became suspicious. Tsikai then told Manyumbu that he was sending a friend to deliver the US$ 520 and collect the solar system. He then called detectives from Harare Central Police station who set a trap for Manyumbu.

The detectives approached Manyumbu with the US$ 520 pretending to have been sent by Tsikai and arrested him after he took the money.
