CHIREDZI-Four pupils selected from three Chiredzi schools are set to represent the country in Rwanda for the KindernotHilfe (KNL) sponsored global child labour discussion from January 15-21, 2023.
KNL is a German based charity organisation focusing on sustainable improvement of the living conditions of needy children and young people.
The four pupils are Shekinah Mutonga and Tanatswa Gwenhamo from Hippo Valley High School, Vanita Chamisa from Tshovani Primary and Marisleides Machekepfu from Ezekiel Guti Junior College.
Coalition Against Child Labour Zimbabwe (CACLAZ) programs officer Esnath Ngandini confirmed the trip to The Mirror and said it is a platform where children will share ideas on how to tackle child labour.
CACLAZ is an NGO tackling child labour issues in Zimbabwe and works in partnership with KNL.
Ngandini said they selected students that have been participating in CACLAZ programs and the organisation has already secured their passports and visas for the trip.
“Four children will travel to Rwanda where they will meet with other across the continent to discuss child labour and how it is affecting their countries and how it can be put to an end.
“We have 35 pupils which we are working with as CACLAZ so from the 35 pupils we selected 4 pupils aged 12-14 years who will represent us,” said Ngandini.
The children will be accompanied by an official from CACLAZ.
One of the pupils, Shekinah Mutonga said she is looking forward to learn from other children and presenters on how they are tackling child labour in their countries.
