Former Zimuto Primary deputy head dies

MASVINGO –Effie Berejena, a former deputy head who taught at Zimuto Primary School in Masvingo for 24 years is no more.
Prince Makovere, a former teacher at the same school confirmed the news to The Mirror. She was buried at Mutswamba Village in Zaka on Monday.
Berejena taught at Zimuto from 1980 until she retired in 2004. She succumbed to an undisclosed illness on Friday.
“She was a great educationist who transformed Zimuto into a power house. She had an illustrious career spanning over 50 years and is Zimuto longest serving teacher. Berejena held several positions from senior teacher to deputy head.
“She is the founder of the Science and Conservation Award which is still being awarded to pupils, she also founded the school drummies and girl guides and is the brains behind the school orchard.
Gogo Berejena fought a good fight and would never miss a single gathering until her death,” said Makovere.
Berejena continued attending school meetings, events and prize giving days even after her retirement.
