Former Zaka OIC killed in a chilling head-on accident

GUTU – Former Officer-In-Charge at Zaka Police Station, Misheck Machingauta was killed in a chilling head-on accident that occurred at Zororo, some 15km from Mpandawana, along Gutu- Chivhu Road at around 10am yesterday.
Saul Machingauta, a nephew of the deceased confirmed the sad news to The Mirror.
Two people, including Machingauta died on the spot while a third passenger died on arrival at Gutu Mission Hospital. The vehicle had 10 people; one person, Machingauta’s wife, Elizabeth Murebwa was discharged from hospital today while six other passengers are said to be in a critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle who has not been named broke both legs.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the accident.
Sources told The Mirror that Machingauta was a passenger in a Toyota Wish coming from the direction of Chivhu and going to Mpandawana. At, or near Zororo, a twin cab coming from Mpandawana tried to overtake a bus resulting in the head-on collision with the Wish.
Machingauta and his wife were coming from their rural home in Chiguhune, Gutu and they boarded the Wish that was coming from Chivhu along the way.
Saul described his uncle as an affable man and a pillar of the family. He was one of the most respected Police officers in the district.
Machingauta held senior positions in Gokwe, Silobela, Kwekwe, Gweru, Zaka and at Masvingo Central.
“He was a quiet, soft-spoken man and a pillar of the family. He was a respected Police officer and the news shattered us all,” said Saul.
Machingauta will be buried in Chiguhune on Sunday.
