Former Mvuma Primary head, Zhou dies of Covid

MVUMA – As Zanu PF continues with its rallies, former Mvuma Primary School head Sifelani Zhou (74) succumbed to Covid-19 complications yesterday.
This is the second Covid 19 death in the area after a tout died of the same ailment in Chivhu, a town 50km away a few days ago.
Chirumhanzu District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Simbarashe Maunga confirmed to The Mirror and extended his condolences to the family.
Dr Maunga said the District Taskforce on Covid-19 is contemplating strict lockdown measures in and around the oldest mining town following the death of Zhou and a surge in Covid-19 cases recorded in the district in the last 48 hrs.
Mvuma Hospital had recorded 11 new Covid19 cases as of Wednesday this week.
“I can confirm one Covid – 19 death of a former school head recorded yesterday. We have also recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases from people tested at Mvuma District Hospital. The district’s Covid-19 task force is busy with logistics on how the pandemic can be controlled from further spreading,” said Dr Maunga.
On Tuesday, Cabinet approved the extension of a localised lockdown by a further two weeks as cases continue to rise.
The Minister in charge of Covid-19 issues in the Midlands Province, Owen Ncube said in an interview that Government was dismayed by the non-compliance to the lockdown by residents the public and urged law enforcement agencies to be more vigilant to contain the pandemic.
Zhou is survived by his wife Phioner, four children and five grandchildren
