Former Hwiru head killed in accident
MASVINGO-Former Hwiru Primary School headmaster, John Takabvirwakare (65) is one of three passengers who died on the spot after a vehicle they were travelling in collided with a haulage truck.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the accident that happened on Friday around 6 pm near Tachi Business Centre to The Mirror.
The other two deceased are Fumani Tafire (24) and an unidentified female passenger.
Dhewa said Tinashe Chagonda (34) was driving a Toyota Regius along Chivhu-Roy Road with six passengers on board.
Upon approaching Tachi Business Centre, Chagonda met an abnormal haulage truck. The truck’s driver switched off his lights and encroached into Chagonda’s lane.
The truck encroached to Chagonda’s lane and sideswiped the vehicle which veered off the road, overturned once and landed on its side.
They sustained head injuries and their bodies were taken to Gutu Rural Hospital for postmortem. Four passengers including Chagonda were rushed to the same hospital and are in stable condition.
Dhewa urged motorists not to switch lanes and avoid speeding.
