Former Regency group of hotels CEO, Dr Fredrick Kasese

MASVINGO – Former Regency group of hotels CEO, Dr Fredrick Kasese has sent the defense case of a man suspected of murdering a taxi driver in Masvingo last year, teetering on the brink after he told a High Court Judge that the lodge the suspect claimed to have slept at on the night of the murder stopped operating long before the case.

Kasese told Justice Garainesu Mawadze at the High Court in Masvingo yesterday that Sundown Lodge where the accused, Chakanetsa Kambarami claims to have slept on the night of the murder was not operating in 2019.
Kambarami is accused of murdering Josiah Rimai whose nearly lifeless body was found near the lodge. Kambarami told the court that Rimai dropped him off at Sundowns Lodge from another lodge in town and left.

Kasese said he converted the lodge into a farm and only a few of his workers stay there.
Justice Mawadze remanded Kambarami in custody to October 30 for sentencing.
