Former Gokomere head’s gutted house rebuilt

Masvingo – Former Gokomere High School head, Slyvester Tererai’s Morningside house in Masvingo which was gutted by fire on January 8, 2020 has been rebuilt, thanks to the immense support received from friends and Catholics.

Catholics including the head of Masvingo Diocese, Bishop Dixon Bhasera were present in large numbers at a thanks giving mass held in Morningside on Sunday.

Tererai thanked colleagues in the church particularly St Joseph Guild, ordinary Catholics and friends for the help in cash and kind. The cost of redoing the house was US$35 000.

He also thanked his former students scattered all over the world from Gokomere and Silveira high schools who raised substantial amounts of money. He also received a lot of support from the Mugiyo Family also known as Tererai.

Tererai who retired a few years ago as a deputy Provincial Education Director (PED) for Masvingo said the work done on the house include rebuilding walls, doing all trusses, plumbing, rewiring of electric lines, doing the ceiling, tiling and repainting.

Tererai lost thousands of dollars worth of property in a fire caused by an electric fault.

Masvingo Vicar General, Fr Walter Nyastanza , Fr Tapiwa Chiorese, Fr Cleophas Magundani and Fr Andrew Foto were also present at the celebrations.

Fr Magundani led the mass.

Professor Raphinos Alexander Chabaya, director Zimbabwe Open University was also present.
