Five straight loses for Mbizo Cricket team
KWEKWE – The joy of playing cricket in the National Premier League (NPL) has turned into a mammoth task for newly promoted Mbizo cricket team after losing all its opening five games.
Mbizo anchors the NPL standings with zero points from five games. Amakhosi, Rainbow and Golden Bulls also have zero points but above Mbizo because of a better net run rate.
The team lost by 69 runs to Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo followed by a defeat to Westside Cricket Club by five wickets at Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare.
In their third outing, the team played against an all-star Uprising squad and were quashed by 250 runs at Old Hararians Sports Club. Chasing 359/6 in 45 overs first innings, Mbizo boys were all out in 21 overs with 78 runs.
Their losing streak continued unabated as they lost to Mutare Sports Club by 159 runs.
Their fifth lose was at their home turf, Kwekwe Sports Club in full view of their fans. The boys were given a rude awakening slap by Masvingo’s Scorpions Cricket Club as they lost by 86 runs.
Team manager Admire Maridza said he was happy with the team’s performance as they are the league’s newcomers.
“We are happy with the quality of play and as newly promoted boys, we will pull up. The whole idea for now is to get exposure and grow the game of cricket in the Midlands province,” he said.
All – rounder Mansion Chikowore has scored 58 runs from the five innings with five wickets in his pocket while Abel Chirimuta has six wickets from four games.
Player cum Coach Ronald Masocha took four wickets in their first game and suffered an injury which ruled him out. This has affected his team’s performance in their last four games.
