Fired Tongogara RDC CEO pleads for vehicle

Councilors turn down the offer

Shurugwi – Fired Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC) Chief Executive Officer Brian Rufasha has appealed to the council chairman to allow him to buy a 4 x 4 Toyota Hilux Twin Cab that he was using as his official vehicle.

Councillors however, rejected the appeal after their full council meeting on December 3, 2020. They further resolved to have Rufasha arrested for continuing to use the council vehicle after he was fired. His case would be theft.

Rufasha refused to hand over the vehicle after he was dismissed on November 16, 2020. He however, later wrote a letter through his lawyers asking for an account to deposit the money for the vehicle.

“Give me the council’s account number and calculate that 10% which you are saying I am supposed to pay so that I deposit it into council’s account,” states the letter.

Councilor Denmark Mtabeni, representing council said council was not selling the vehicle to Rufasha because he did not have a clean record at work.

“When council gave Rufasha a contract, the contract clearly stated that the vehicle would only be sold to him after five years on condition that he (the CEO) had a clean record at work. Rufasha had an accident with the vehicle and he was on the wrong side of the law,” said Mtabeni.

Council chairman Tamiswa Njovana said Rufasha will soon be reported to the Police for continuing to use the vehicle without the permission of council.
