MASVINGO – The just fired ZIFA Eastern Region Division One league outfit FC Wangu Mazodze coach and his assistant are adamant that their dismissal from the bench last week has nothing to do with the team’s performance but all to do with a new chairman.
Ezekiel Mutoda told The Mirror in an interview that he was actually surprised to be dismissed together with his assistant coach because the team was not performing badly.
He said that the only reason why the new chairman Kudakwashe Kavhiya dismissed the coaches was because he wanted to appoint his own team of coaches.
The two were replaced by Takura Shariwa as coach and George Magariro as his assistant.
Kavhiya who became chairman in February dismissed Mutoda and his assistant coach Pfumo Nyambi on Tuesday last week, the night after Wangu Mazodze lost 4:1 to Greenfuel FC at Mucheke Stadium in a league match.
Nyambi said he was not bitter about the dismissal although the two were not given any notice. He said he will remain loyal to the team and continue to attend its matches both home and away.
He also said that the target set for them was too high as management wanted them to take the team to top four in the league. The new coach’s target was however, relaxed to top 8, said Mutoda.
The two coaches were dismissed when Wangu Mazodze sat on the 11th position with 8 points from 9 games. The team had won two games, drew two and had five defeats.
Ezekiel Mutoda only managed one win in 9 games since it was the first time for The Kingdom boys to participate in the division 1 of the eastern region soccer league.
“We had a good relationship and worked well with our boss Wangu Mazodze. It’s hard to be fired, when it’s your first time to play in the division 1 soccer league. Yes, the team has more defeats than wins but we were still building the team.
“I blame the chairman for our dismissal. This had nothing to do with the results but the fact that he wanted his own coaches,” said Nyambi. https://masvingomirror.com/
