MUTARE-The ruling Zanu PF and its affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) held a peace march against political violence in Mutare on Saturday.
The march began at Meikles Park and ended at Sakubva Sports Oval Grounds, where Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) president held a star rally on Sunday.
The march, attended by hundreds, ran under the theme; NO TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE during and after elections.
Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Edgar Seenza, representing Manicaland Minister of State Nokuthula Matsikenyeri, reiterated that the province should lead by maintaining peace during and after elections.
“Manicaland Province is doing well when it comes to development and for us as a province to reach Vision 2030 there must be peace in the province”, said Matsikenyeri.
Zanu Pf Chikanga Constituency candidate Kenneth Muchina Chikanga and his Mutare Central counterpart Isau Mupfumi attended the march.
Chikanga denounced hate speech and violence. He said development and harmony can be achieved when there is peace.
“The goal of equality, development and harmony will never be achieved if we hate each other. Being violent destroys our norms as Zimbabweans,” said Muchina.
Manicaland has been plagued by violent encounters, particularly in Mutare Central and Chipinge.
Three CCC members, Simbarashe Shavirashe, Misheck Sithole and Witness Marwei, were allegedly assaulted on their way to Matida Flats Ground where the party’s Mutare Central constituency candidate Brian James launched his campaign. The matter is under RRB 5603666.
