Shurugwi – A family from Bethel in Shurugwi demanded and got the car that struck and killed their child (7) plus US$1 000 after threatening not to bury the deceased if those conditions were not met.

The Mirror is informed that the family of Matthew Murazva forced Fidelis Muradzwa (25) to sign an affidavit before a lawyer in which he agreed to surrender a car that he was driving when he struck and killed Matthew at Bethel Turn off in Shurugwi on Monday last week.

The family also managed to get Muradzwa to sign for an additional US$1 000. Matthew was selling mushrooms when he was run over by the car.

Midlands Police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case to The Mirror.

Efforts to get a comment from Muradzwa were futile as his mobile phone could not was unreachable.

Sources told The Mirror that Muradzwa disappeared after running over the juvenile.

It is understood that Muradzwa was driving a Nissan Caravan belonging to a cop stationed at Lalapanzi heading to Gweru on Shurugwi – Zvishavane road carrying three passengers. On approaching the 3km peg he hit Matthew who was crossing the road and he sustained head injuries and died on the spot.https://masvingomirror.com
