Fake Gokwe doctor jailed 36 months

KWEKWE – Magistrate Grace Tupiri has sentenced a Kwekwe nurse to an effective 36 months in jail after the latter opened a surgery in Gokwe and operated on four unsuspecting patients.
The patients developed complications after the surgeries and reported Admire Munyeki (51) of Mbizo, Kwekwe to the authorities.
He was convicted of four counts of contravening the Medical Act by practicing as or representing himself to be a medical practitioner. He was convicted on his own plea.
The first surgery happened on January 5, 2024, at Givemore Masteck’s homestead, Village 2 under Chief Samuchembu in Gokwe North.
Munyeki misrepresented that he was a dentist and extracted two teeth from Stella Sibanda.
She experienced discomfort in her mouth and received medical attention at Samuchembu Rural Health Center where the matter was discovered.
Munyeki circumcised Daison Chelo on March 1, 2024, and he developed some complications. He received medical attention at Samuchembu Rural Health Center where the offense was discovered.
On the third count, Munyeki did a Hernia surgery on Taimon Ndege and he developed complications. He was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where the matter was revealed.
He carried out a minor surgery on Erisha Siakachoma’s neck and removed a growth. The complainant developed some pain and reported the matter at Samuchembu Rural Health Center.
Munyeki was arrested at a funeral in Chirape, Gokwe North on Monday.
