Erina Chinyengetere is new BHASO chairperson

MASVINGO – Batanai HIV and AIDS Support Group, one of the leading organisations in the campaign against HIV and Aids in the country has elected a new executive committee chaired by Erina Chinyengetere, a lecturer at Mushagashe Vocational College.

The Committee of seven members was elected during an Annual General Meeting held at Chevron Hotel in Masvingo yesterday and also attended by The Mirror.

Former Batanai director Peter Marimi was elected treasurer while Rosemary Svondo, a secondary school teacher was elected secretary.

The AGM was attended by officials from the Department of Social Welfare.

Leah Mudavu was elected vice chairperson and Shamiso Mudyiwa is the organizing secretary while committee members are Rangarirai Chigaba and Edwick Mhazo.

The committee will serve a two-year-term.

The AGM was attended by nine support groups from throughout the province.

Bhaso ran under a board chaired by Peter Vhoko, vice chairman Dr Amadeus Shamu, Treasurer Thomas Mhuru, secretary Munthali, vice secretary Mhlonga, and committee members Rodney Makausi and Nhemachena.
Chinyengetere said in an interview that her mission is to ensure that youth are more and more involved in the activities of the organisation. She said that programs to support members will be intensified.

“I am honored to have been elected chairperson. We acknowledge the immense contribution of previous executive members and the board. We will take over from there and serve to the best of our ability,” said Chinyengetere.
BHASO acting director Simbarashe Mahaso said the organization will hold quarterly review meetings.

The support groups present at the AGM were Kushinga, Kumutsana, Kuzviriritira from Gutu, Takunda from Masvingo rural, Chengetanai from Chivi, Pepukai from Gutu, Mushagashe youth HIV support group, Zuvarabuda from Chivi, and Batanai.

Meanwhile Batanai which has extended the scope of its operations to Manicaland, Midlands and Mat South is in the process of amending its constitution.

The current Batanai constitution was registered in 1996.
