MASVINGO – Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa has won President Mnangagwa’s Award for the Best Town Clerk in Zimbabwe in 2023.
The awards are run by Government to recognize excellent performance in service delivery.
The award comes barely a month after The Mirror management recognized Mukaratirwa as the newspaper’s Person of The Year 2024. The Mirror gave the recognition to the engineer for turning around the dire city water supply situation within a few months of assuming office.
Water supply jumped almost four-fold from 8 million litres to 30 million litres a day.
Mukaratirwa received the award from President Emmerson Mnangagwa at a ceremony held at State House last Friday. The event also served as a signing ceremony of performance contracts for senior public officials for the 2024 fiscal year.
Victoria Falls Town Clerk, Ronnie Dube came second with Mvurwi Town Clerk, Dr Shelly Nyakudya third in the category.
Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) CEO, Tariro Matavire came second in the rural local authorities’ category after Itai Mawonde of Mhondoro-Ngezi RDC. He is the only other top public official from Masvingo province who won an award.
Kwekwe Mayor Albert Zinhanga came second in the Mayors for Urban Local Authorities category after Mvurwi Mayor Tonderai Samhu. Plumtree’s Alderman Knowledge Ndlovu was the second runner-up in the category.
