She applauded one of the most sought after school in Masvingo with an enrollment of over 1 600 pupils this morning when she handed over the coveted 2020 Secretary’s Merit Award.
The school is the recipient of the award for its academic, cultural and sporting excellence and meeting the principles of a resilient school during the COVID-19 era.
Thabela unveiled a plaque and handed over 40 pupil tablets, a projector, electronic interactive board and a teacher’s laptop for scooping the award. School head Rameck Mashuro received a certificate of excellence and a tablet.
The school is utilizing e Learning passport, an offline mobile and technical app recommended by Government. The application is in computers in the school laboratory and can be accessed by all students.
“A lot is happening right here at Victoria Junior we have seen innovative things they are doing. This is the only School so far that I have realised that their pupils have the excellent knowhow of the Government recommended learning portal. The learning passport carries a push to leave no learner behind.
“We are gathered here to acknowledge, appreciate and take cognisance of the efforts and strides that the school made in its response to and resilience during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic in 2020,” she said.
Masvingo Provincial Education Director (PED) Shylatte Mhike, Masvingo District Development Coordinator (DDC) Roy Hove and all seven district schools inspectors attended the event.
Mashuro said the award will propel the school to greater success as it will lead to the betterment of learning, sporting, cultural and innovative projects at the school.
School Development Chairman, Nevison Mareverwa pleaded with the school stakeholders to maintain the standard of the award.
“The lifetime achievement will go a long way in taking the school to greater heights as we will not rest but continue striving for the best, particularly in the provision of quality education and relevant and learner centered curriculum,” he said.
He also said the school is offering a variety of sporting activities as rugby, swimming, cricket, chess, hockey, tennis and handball.
The Secretary’s Merit Award is a quality control measure awarded to excelling schools that would have demonstrated academic, cultural and sporting excellence, including other tenets of a Child Friendly School.
