ED mourns Bishop Munyanyi

GWERU – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has send a condolence message to the Munyanyi family, Catholics in Gweru Diocese and the nation at large following the death of Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi who collapsed and died on Sunday morning at his house in Shurugwi at the age of 66.
The message described the late as a family of the President as the two used to interact at Driefontein Mission a lot when Mnangagwa was the MP of Chirumhanzi – Zivagwe Constituency.
The message was delivered on his behalf by the Minister of State for Midlands Province Larry Mavima during a memorial service mass held at Regina Mundi High School on Friday afternoon.


“On behalf of His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the entire Government of Zimbabwe and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to express my profound condolences to the Munyanyi family on their loss.
“We received the sad news and we are deeply saddened and shocked with the untimely passing of our beloved Bishop Munyanyi.
“The Diocese of Gweru and the entire Roman Catholic Church in Zimbabwe have been robbed and plunged into mourning following the demise of Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi, a true servant of the Lord and a renowned priest who loved his country through preaching unity and peace… ” reads part of the message.


The late Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi was born on January 3, 1956 in Bikita District.
He attended his primary education at Bardmore Mine Primary before proceeding to Silveira Mission for his secondary education.
He studied for priesthood at Chishawasha and was ordained a priest on September 3, 1983.
He was appointed Bishop of the Gweru Diocese in May 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI after the death of Bishop Xavier Mugadzi who died on February 6, 2004.https://masvingomirror.com/
