Dzimba dzemabwe wins Masvingo Chibuku Neshamwari

MASVINGO –Dzimba dzemabwe traditional dance group are the 2022 Masvingo Chibuku Neshamwari winners and will represent the province at the national competitions on a date yet to be announced.

The Nemamwa based outfit which performed the Jukwa (rain making) dance also walked away US$2 500 richer from the competition held at Farai Beerhall in Mucheke on Saturday. 

Ten groups competed and Chivi based Jeketera dance group came second and bagged US$1 500. Jeketera performed the Bira dance. Another Nemamwa outfit, Dzimbahwe dance group came third and walked away US$1 000 richer. 

The other groups walked away with US$500 compensatory prices. 

Chibuku Neshamwari is sponsored by Delta Corporation through its Chibuku brand and organized by Zimbabwe National Arts Council (NAC) and Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA). The festival has been running since 1963.

Dzimba dzemabwe group leader Remson Dengu Mushipe told The Mirror that his group is thrilled to have won the ticket to compete at the national event. 

“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to compete at national level. We came second in 2019 and that was the last time the competition was held. Dzimba dzemabwe will raise Masvingo’s flag high at the national competition,” said Mushipe.

Chibuku Neshamwari had a two year hiatus owing to COVID-19. The festival has been running for 59 years since 1963. 

Meanwhile the Midlands provincial competition is set for this Saturday at Zaire Bar in Gweru. https://masvingomirror.com/
