MUTARE โ A Chimanimani man (18) left the court in stitches after he told the magistrate that he is 18, but does not know his birth year. Artwell Tauzeni went to say that he is a Form 3 pupil at Nhedziwa High School.
He told Mutare Provincial Magistrate Perseverance Makala that he only knows that he was born on December 7 after being asked to prove that he is actually a student at the school.
He was arraigned before the court together with Marshal Ngirazi (22) who also claimed that he is a lower sixth student at the same school.
The duo was charged with Failure to account for goods as defined in Section 174 (2) (b) of the Customs and Exercise Act.
Circumstances are that the duo from Muchakagara Village, Chief Mutambara, Chimanimani, was found with undocumented motorcycles last Sunday.
They were summoned to the local Police station for questioning and failed to prove that they had bought or owned the motorcycles.
Tauzei was found with a Lifan motorcycle chassis number LF3PCB2CGMA006924. He told investigators that his uncle had bought the motorcycle from Mozambique.
Ngirazi was found with two motorcycles, chassis numbers LF3PCB2C5KA903 and LF3PCB2UNA001332. He failed to provide the documentation.
The three motorcycles were taken to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
Magistrate Makala fined Tauzeni US$150 or two months in prison. Ngirazi was fined US$ 300 or four months in jail.
