MASVINGO – Prominent Masvingo based physician Dr Kudzai Masinire (40) has been elected the new Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA) President.

He was elected to serve a two-year tenure during elections held at the three day ZiMA annual congress from Thursday to Saturday in Victoria Falls. Participants voted virtually on Thursday and Friday and those present cast their votes on Saturday.

Masinire served as ZiMA vice president from 2018-2022. Elections could not be held because of COVID-19. He replaces Dr Francis Chiwora, a Bulawayo based gynecologist.

He will be responsible for the sole representative association for all medical doctors in Zimbabwe regardless of their area of specialty.

“I am glad to be voted in as the new ZiMA president. I have muted celebrations because of the enormous challenges ahead which include reinvigorating the association and pushing forward towards achieving the association’s objectives,” said Masinire.

He competed against Dr Enock Magida who is the Mashonaland branch president and former Chief Executive Officer of Chitungwiza Hospital.

Masinire is an executive member of the fifth and current Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ), College of Primary Health Care Physicians of Zimbabwe (CPCPZ) National Employment Council (NEC) member, member of Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP), serving in several Technical Working Groups (TWG).
