GUTU – Gutu Deanery celebrated St Anne Feast Day at Mukaro Mission last Saturday.
The assistant-priest-in-charge of Bakhita Mission Father Davison Hamadziripi said that the event was about honouring the life and legacy of Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Jesus Christ.
Catholics also use the day to honour all mothers.
“This day marks the celebration of St Anne, who was Mary’s mother and Jesus’ grandmother
“The day is not only about St Anne but she stands as a representative of all mothers as we are supposed to be grateful to our mothers for all they have done and all they do in our lives, hence the feast day celebration ,” he said
The festival was characterized by singing, dancing, masses, and teachings from Father Isaac Muzenda, Father Richard Pundo, Father Emmanueli Zandonda and Father Hamadziripi among others.
Father Muzenda preached about the life of a righteous woman and urged the gathering to avoid gossip, jealous and dress properly.
“As we celebrate St Anne, let us remember the importance of leading a righteous life as a mother because everything in a home is directly related to the woman of the house,” he said.
Father Pundo said women should work hard and be independent. He said mothers should not be burdens of other people; always asking for money and support to look after their children.
“St Anne’s legacy reminds us of the power of faith and family, but as women, one should not always rely on asking other people for help unnecessarily. Start your own projects, and then you will see that as time goes on, you won’t be a burden to others,” he said.
