MIRROR REPORTER

CHIREDZI – Divineyard Church of His Presence (DCOHP) has opened a new secondary school in Chiredzi named Shekhinah. The secondary will be followed by a primary school sometime in the future while an ECD center is already established, a statement by the Church in the hands of The Mirror has said.

Shekhinah is located at the church’s Buffalo Range Plot in Chiredzi and the school will complement Government’s efforts to deliver social services to citizens of Zimbabwe.

Shekhinah which was registered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2021 opened its doors to its first in-take of Form One students this Monday. Fifty pupils have so far registered while the school can absorb 120 pupils. The Church’s statement said that enrolment is still going on. The other classes will be added in the future.

The headmaster of the new school, Munetsi Chishamba – who is former headmaster of Neshuro, Batanai and Mwenezi High Schools – promised to instill discipline at the new institution in order to make it a centre of excellence.

“To succeed in everything you do, you need discipline, and this is what we would want to instill in learners at this place,” Chishamba said.

The new school will serve children from Chiredzi town and surrounding resettlement communities and there are plans to develop it to a boarding school. The church is also running an ECD centre in readiness to the opening of a primary school at the same Buffalo Range premises next year.

The church – whose services alternate between Harare and Chiredzi – opened a primary school at its Stoneridge plot in Harare last year, which school is benefiting children from the local community.

The government says the country has a shortage of at least 3,000 schools. The church’s leader, John Chibwe, urged students to seek to excel by making Jesus Christ the centre of their lives.

“The school’s principles and values are founded in Jesus Christ and there is no success outside of Christ.

“There is what they call success in the world, but that success is not enduring, you only go up to come down, but if your success is in the Lord, you can go through any situation and you know that greatness is in you. The treasure of wisdom and knowledge is in Christ. Make Christ the centre of your life,” said Chibwe.https://masvingomirror.com
