MASVINGO – Discovery Ambulance Services (DAS) has opened its third branch in Masvingo to provide emergency medical services. DAS has other branches in Mutare, Bindura and is headquartered in Harare.
The new branch is situated at Makurira Memorial Clinic in the Central Business District (CBD) opposite the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Law school.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Munowenyu told The Mirror that Masvingo records high number of fatalities along the Beitbridge – Harare highway and there was an acute shortage of emergency response service providers.
“The prevalence of accidents in the region is high due to heavy traffic. We aim to mitigate this challenge by reducing road carnage through rapid response and medical care,” he said.
The company’s Head of Public Relations and Marketing Joshua Taderera said they have affordable from as little as a US$1 to cater for all residents.
“Our range of emergency health coverage includes a US$1 package, a US$10 package, and a US$20 package, allowing clients to pay a monthly fee for coverage to Discovery Ambulances.
“The introduction of the US$1 package underscores our commitment to ensuring accessibility of our services to all individuals. We assure our clients that we are dedicated to serving you,” he said.

Taderera said that their packages offer unlimited hospital or clinic transfers and facilitating the seamless transportation of individuals between medical facilities.
Last year Afro-Pop musician Garikai ‘Garry’ Mapanzure died after spending 12 hours at Masvingo Provincial Hospital following an accident.
There was no emergency medical service provider transport him to Harare. The sole provider Mars allegedly demanded US$2 900 upfront to transport him to Harare.
The province’s main referral hospital, Masvingo Provincial Hospital does not have adequate emergency response services.
DAS has also conducted several Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR) initiatives since opening the branch.
The company has provided free consultation, blood pressure testing, diabetes tests, treatment and public health education at the Civic Centre and at Mbungo Estates.
Taderera added that they have highly qualified and well trained staffers.
“Our premium ambulance services are manned by extensively trained personnel, and our vehicles are outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Today, we are heading to Mutendi Estates to conduct complimentary medical assessments with our mobile doctor for free to the people,” he added.
