Zvishavane – Runde Rural District Council (RDC) has completed its first major devolution funded project, the US$215 000 Mabasa – Marira water pipeline.

The project is going to benefit a clinic with water, three schools and villages with a population of more than 20 000 people.

Runde RDC CEO Golden Moyo said this to the Minister of State for Midlands, Senator Larry Mavima during a tour of the project on Friday.

The project was started in 2019.

Water is drawn from Mabasa Dam and pumped 7,9km to a reservoir which supplies Venge Primary School and Headman Shiku’s homestead and 20 other homesteads complimented by another reservoir at Marira which will supply water to the clinic and other villages including those in Ward 1.

Speaking during the tour Moyo said the project is complete with water reaching its intended destination which is Marira Clinic. However, communities along the way and a population of 20 000 will benefit from the project.

“The project is done but there is need to draw water to places like Ward 1. With additional funding this will be done and this is our first devolution project which is meant to benefit over 20 000 villagers including three primary and two secondary schools,” he said.

Mavima commended the local authority as one of the best in the Midlands. He said that the drawn water is the safest water in Zimbabwe.https://masvingomirror.com/
