Chikomba – Daramombe High School in Chikomba District has recorded 33 Covid-19 cases among its students.
Ministry of Health and Child Care officials reportedly visited the school on Tuesday to assess the situation and put measures to curb the spread of the virus at the school.
Chivhu District Schools Inspector (DSI), Emmannuel Kwenda, confirmed the cases to The Mirror and said that those who tested positive had mild symptoms.
“I can confirm that there are Covid-19 cases at Daramombe and those who tested positive had mild symptoms.
“I have been informed that officials from the Ministry of Health visited the school today (Tuesday),” Said Kwenda.
The school head, Courage Chikasha, declined to comment.
“I cannot comment on this to the media. Get in touch with Chivhu DSI,” said Chikasha.
Chivhu District Medical Officer, Ignatious Mahachi could not be reached for a comment as his phone went unanswered.
This comes at a time when several schools across the country have recorded the high number of new Covid-19 cases since they re-opened for the second term after a long lockdown.
Teachers’ unions have also slammed Government for re-opening schools without ensuring that learning institutions are ready to deal with the virus.
