Cyclone Chalane: Chipinge Civil Protection calls emergency meeting Ellen Mlambo

Chipinge Times Editor

Chipinge – Chipinge District development Co-ordinator (DDC), William Mashava this morning called for an emergency meeting of the Civil Protection Unit to look into the threats paused by Cyclone Charlene and the district’s state of preparedness.

The meeting started at the DDC’s boardroom at 9am and Chipinge Times is still to get the details of the engagement. The Civil Protection Unit comprises all heads of Government departments in the district.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashava were futile at the time of going to Press.

The tropical cyclone is building up in the Indian Ocean and is expected to land in Mozambique next and there are fears that it could reach Zimbabwe like Cyclone Idai.

Hundreds of lives were lost during Cyclone Idai and infrastructure worth millions of dollars destroyed when it hit the country two years ago. Victims of the Cyclone are still living in tents.
