CHIREDZI – The body of a Gonarezhou veterinary officer who drowned while crossing Chilonga Bridge across Runde River in Chiredzi on Wednesday was found today without its head.

Relatives found the body being devoured by crocodiles and they had to fight hard to retrieve the pieces that they could.

The vet officer has been identified as Sebastine Shindi who was aged 44. His uncle Absai Godini confirmed the development and said the body was found at 8am about 400 metres from the bridge.

More than 10 people have been swept away and killed as they tried to cross the flooded Runde River this year alone. This latest incident happens as calls for the construction of a proper bridge reach a crescendo.

“We found his body this morning but it was in pieces. We had to ward off crocodiles that were feeding on his body and his head was missing.

“When we heard that Shindi has drowned, we went to the scene together with other relatives and we were assisted by the community to search for him. We found parts of him this morning,” said Godini.

Shindi disappeared on Wednesday when he was travelling from his rural home in Shindi Village, Chief Nhema area in Zaka when his motorbike was swept away at Chilonga Bridge.

The remains were taken to Chiredzi General hospital and burial arrangements are yet to be announced.

Apart from being a Vet officer, Shindi was also a pastor at Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Nhema A1 region.

He is survived by his wife and five children. Mourners are currently gathered at Shindi Village, Chief Nhema area in Zaka. https://masvingomirror.com
