Masvingo – Nine boxing bouts, five local and four international that were supposed to kick off at the World Boxing Federation clash between title holder, Charles Manyuchi of Zimbabwe and contender Muhamad Sebyala of Uganda at 1630 (Zim time) at the Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo have been cancelled at the last minute due to the third wave of Covid19 that is rapidly spiraling in the country.

Leney Simbeye of Zambia, Baison Gwayani of Malawi, Yamikani Mukandawire of Malawi and Yusf Ali of Malawi were ordered to vacate the hotel and leave the country by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation. Local boxers were also ordered to leave the hotel immediately.

A Ministry of Sports official confirmed the development.

What it means is that instead of 10 bouts, there will just be the main bout which will be fought over 12 rounds. A maximum of 30 people, mainly boxing officials and journalists are going to be allowed inside the arena.

Boxers who had travelled from Zambia have been ordered to vacate the premises and send back. Other local fighters were dismissed at eight in the morning.
