Courtroom packed as Chisi appears for remand

MASVINGO – Courtroom 3 at Masvingo Magistrates Court was packed with many people standing yesterday as Mary Chisi (39), the woman allegedly found with US$3 000 worth of crystal meth appeared for initial remand.
The State said Chisi who is married to a soldier in the Zimbabwe National Army was arrested on March 9, 2023 with 19, 9618 g of crystal meth after an hour long surveillance at her house at a number 2548/9 in Majange.
Magistrate Conceptor Ngwerume remanded Chisi who is facing charges of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs and represented by Oman Mafa of Mutendi Mudisi and Shumba Law Firm in prison to March March 27, 2023 and she is expected to apply for bail at the High Court today.
On March 9, 2023 at 9 am, a crack team of Police officers from Masvingo Central District was on patrol around Majange targeting drug dealers. They carried one-hour surveillance at the accused person’s residence monitoring movement of potential buyers who moved in and out of the house.
They entered the accused’s premises and introduced themselves and asked to search the house since they had information that she is a drug dealer. The entered her bedroom and asked her to give them the drugs which she was selling to the public.
She complied and took a handbag which had 47 sachets of white crystalline substance suspected to have methamphetamine. Police conducted a search in the room and recovered another two sachets of the same substance. Chisi was arrested and escorted to ZRP Chikato.
The drug was weighed and it had a mass of 19,9618g. It was then taken to Forensic Science Laboratory where it was tested and found to have methamphetamine.
