MBERENGWA – A woman who has a 10-month-old baby with a police officer caused a scene at Mberengwa Magistrates Court when she threatened to dump the baby into the custody of the father.
Constance Zhou (27) complained that Saratial Shumba (41) who is based in Redcliff only paid a maintenance of ZWL$4 000 once in October and has not looked after his child since then. In addition, she said that the money is too little and wants it increased.

Zhou from Chief Mataruse applied for an upward review of her maintenance claim at Mberengwa Magistrate Courts yesterday. She wanted it reviewed from ZWL$4000 to ZWL$10 000 however, her application failed because she did not have papers to support her argument.
Zhou was told to approach the Police with her case so that procedure is followed. This agitated the applicant who started throwing abusive words at her former lover leading court officials to lead her out.

Zhou told The Mirror that she wanted to leave the child with the father since she had no means of looking after the minor.
“He is not sending the ZWL$4 000 and in any case it is too little. I was told to report to the Police but I know he will not get arrested. When I was eight months pregnant he threw me out of his house, I filed for maintenance and he paid ZWL$4 000 for October and November and ended there, its six months now without any payments.
“I’m suffering with his child and my relatives are pressuring me to give him his child,” said Zhouhttps://masvingomirror.com
