Compulsory Covid 19 vaccination starts in Chiredzi schools

CHIREDZI – The Ministry of Health and Child care on Monday started the compulsory vaccination of 12 year-olds and above in schools.

Chiredzi District Medical Officer, Brian Dhlandhlara confirmed the campaign and said it will run from Monday 21 March to April 2, 2022 and the vaccination is compulsory to all pupils from 12 years of age.

“Yes I can confirm that the vaccination programme started today and it is compulsory to all pupils aged 12 years and above,” said Dhlandhlara.

The vaccination will start from 7 AM and end at 4 PM for the stated dates.

At least 83 564 people have received the first Covid19 dose in Chiredzi and 62 439 have taken the second dose. Only 1 866 have taken the booster dose so far.

District Nursing Officer (DNO) Leonard Bhasera said they have two types of vaccines which are Sinovac and the Sinopham and each person is supposed to get three jabs.

“We have two types of vaccines, the Sinovac and the Sinopham vaccine. Each person is supposed to get the first dose then the second after 14 days then the booster after 6 months,” said Bhasera.

Meanwhile all parents have been urged to encourage their children to go to school every day so that they will not miss the vaccination programme.https://masvingomirror.com/
